Rex is a 3rd generation fisherman. He started fishing in 1978 and has over thirty years on the water. In 1999 he bought the fishing vessel Ms. Julie and is currently active in 3 different fisheries: Groundfish, Oregon Pink shrimp and Dungeness crab. Rex has also been a participant in the NMFS/NOAA West Coast Groundfish surveys since 1999.
The fishing vessel Ms. Julie is a 75-foot boat of steel construction capable of packing 75,000 pounds of fish. She was built in 1989 by Master Boat builders in Louisiana and has a top speed of 8 knots. The Ms. Julie is home-ported in Charleston, Oregon.
Hallmark Fisheries, located in Charleston, Oregon is part of the California Shellfish Company. One of the largest seafood processing facilities on the southern Oregon coast, Hallmark employs over 100 people and operates year-round processing trawl-caught Groundfish among other wild caught seafood such as crab, salmon and shrimp.
